Selah Aquatic Center

In 2015, the Selah community decided that it was time to upgrade their aging pool. The funding was collected for the new Selah Aquatic Center which was finished and opened to the public in the summer of 2019. The aquatic center is equipped with the necessities for swimmers of all ages, including three unique areas including a lap pool, a shallow pool area for new swimmers to learn in, and a lazy river.

Structural engineering services for Selah Parks and Recreation for the project. The services included a 4,000 sf pool building with CMU walls, exposed glue laminated beams, and a structurally insulated panel (SIP) roof, as well as a cast-in-place below grade concrete surge tank. Close coordination with the architect resulted in hidden structural connections and a clean aesthetic. Design considerations included preventing damage from moisture, detailing of SIPs for bidding out to multiple vendors and for constructability, and minimizing project cost.
