Gateway Energy Battery Facility Phase II
Coffman supported EPC company, McCarthy Builders, with design engineering, EOR services, and construction administration for Gateway II, a new 88MW/354MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) facility utilizing 1,100 racks of lithium-ion batteries. The BESS is housed in two 13,000 sf buildings in Southern California.
Engineering services provided included civil, structural, electrical, fire protection, and mechanical design and consulting for the BESS buildings. The project scope included the development of a multi-discipline Basis of Design document and code study, construction documentation development, construction administration and permitting support, and support for AHJ interface.
Coffman’s team developed designs for the civil site layout, grading and drainage plans, and created cut and fill schedules. They also reviewed the geotechnical report, designed foundations and details, created a roofing plan, wall details, elevations, and provided full electrical design including cable size and routing for DC and AC systems, medium voltage collection arrangement, electrical system studies, cable size, type and routing for network cabling and equipment, HVAC thermal management, BOP fire protection design, and fire alarm aggregation.
