Community Learning Center at Ma’ili

The Kamehameha Schools Community Learning Center at Ma’ili on the west side of Oahu is an early education center that shares the complex with seven other early education providers including HCAP Head Start, Keiki O Ka ‘Aina, PACT Early Headstart, and others. The center provides education for 245 preschoolers ages 3-4 years old and 32 infants and toddlers.

Coffman provided the electrical engineering and lighting design for the $33M facility which included 12 preschool classrooms, an infant and toddler center, and an early learning office building (kauhale). Electrical engineering work included the design of the power, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, and communication systems. The design also provided provisions for future expansion of the campus. To meet an expedited schedule, the permitted design was completed in less than 4 months in order to keep the project on schedule for the target completion date.

Within several months of opening, the education center was fully utilized and fulfilling its mission to be the primary early education provider in the region.
