Meet Mitch

Mitch is a principal and also serves as Coffman’s Corporate Manager for Energy Storage. Leveraging energy development and power systems engineering experience since 2006, he supports projects across the company with design and quality control as a subject matter expert (SME) for lithium-ion batteries, while also growing the portfolio of energy storage projects with strategic partnerships and opportunity development. With pioneering spirit, technical expertise, and client rapport, Mitch supports developers, utilities, EPCs, battery OEMs, and other clients with engineering design, project management, and permitting on a wide range of energy storage technologies, including lithium-ion, vanadium flow, metal-air, zinc bromide, CAES, and other systems.

Over the past four years, Mitch has positioned Coffman as a premier consultancy for multidiscipline engineering of utility-scale lithium-ion battery systems. Mitch has grown Coffman’s energy storage portfolio from a handful of battery projects to over 140 concurrent utility-scale energy storage projects in 2024.

Mitch is is a licensed mechanical engineer and certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He has an MS in Materials Science & Engineering from University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and a BS in Physics and German Studies from San Diego State University (SDSU).
