City of Hope Duarte Outpatient Clinic

City of Hope is an internationally renowned biomedical research institute and treatment center. Their mission is to transform the future of health. Fulfillment of that mission requires the development of land and facilities to ensure continued advances in the treatment and research of cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases.

As part of these continued developments and the Phase 1 Master Plan, Coffman provided fire protection engineering services, including fire/life safety code and smoke control consulting, for the seven-story high-rise outpatient ambulatory care facility that is approximately 345,000 total sf. Coffman developed the building’s fire protection/life safety code compliance approach, the smoke control system approach, and the rational analysis. Coffman’s scope also included detailed coordination with HCAI due to connections between the new building and adjacent HCAI-regulated buildings, as well as interfacing with the City of Duarte, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and other authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
