Honolulu Office Building Temporary Closure

On Thursday, July 23, 2026, an air conditioning chiller leak in the basement of Topa Financial Center tower caused an electrical system failure that generated smoke and triggered the building’s sprinkler system. While there was no fire, no damage to Coffman’s office space, and no reported injuries, the incident resulted in a power outage affecting the entire building.
Building management, Hawaiian Electric, and other partners continue restoration efforts. Based on the latest information, all Honolulu employees are working remotely until further notice while inspections, testing, and repairs are completed. Current estimates indicate that a full return to the office may be several weeks away, though the timeline remains dependent on ongoing assessments, approvals, and repair work.
