UCSD Humanities & Social Sciences Building Pump House

Coffman provided civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical engineering for a new 280 sf fire pump house that serves the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Humanities and Social Sciences Building.

The civil design included demolition, site layout, precise grading and drainage, utility design, and pavement design, as well as permitting assistance through UCSD and the Coastal Commission. Close coordination was needed with UCSD staff and the project team to provide designs that fit seamlessly into the existing improvements and allowed for minimal disruption to the surrounding area.

The structural design included steel roof framing, CMU walls, and foundations. These designs were closely coordinated with the new underground storage tank and pump vault.

Electrical engineering services for the pump house shell included the design of interior and exterior lighting, receptacles, and power to mechanical/plumbing equipment. The electrical design also included a new panelboard to serve general-purpose receptacles, mechanical equipment, and lighting.

Mechanical engineering services were provided for the cooling, heating, and drainage of the pump house. Coffman coordinated requirements with fire protection engineers, electrical engineers, civil engineers, and UCSD facilities management and engineers.
