Station Space Renovation
Coffman provided acoustic services to repurpose the second floor of King Street Station into a community space. The 10,000 sf area now accommodates five organizations dedicated to performing arts and music. Consequently, the space required an acoustical environment conducive to playing musical instruments and enhancing their tonal characteristics in solo and group settings. The acoustical design for classrooms also included enhanced sound isolation to prevent noise disruptions.
Coffman provided testing of noise and vibration levels from train transits and the design for vibration and sound isolation from transit and between spaces. Coffman also provided the design for acoustical finishes to control reverberation and mechanical noise control. Post-testing of wall and door assemblies was also completed to confirm the designed performance.
The project garnered significant recognition, receiving three prestigious awards:
- 2024 AIA/WA Civic Design Awards – Honorable Mention
- NAIOP Washington State 2024 Night of the Stars Community Impact Development of the Year – Winner
- ENR Northwest’s 2024 Regional Best Projects – Best Small Project Winner
