Southwestern College Public Safety Training Center
For more than 30 years, Southwestern College has trained future firefighters, police officers, and paramedics. Coffman provided structural engineering services for a new facility that was constructed to be a home for fire science, EMT/paramedic, and police academy programs, becoming the training hub for San Diego’s first responders.
The Public Safety Training Center consists of multiple structures and site improvements. The main building is a one-story 6,200 sf utility building containing a fitness room, restrooms/showers, simulation and training rooms. The structural systems consist of steel framing with moment frames providing lateral resistance. The center also includes a 6,2000 sf garage space for fire engines, ambulances, police SUVs, and provides storage areas. Additional buildings include a 3,000 sf storage building, a three-story 4,000 sf fire training tower, and a 400 sf simulation apartment.
