Scripps La Jolla Tower II
The Scripps Memorial Hospital medical campus in La Jolla has served the greater San Diego community since 1924 and will continue to serve patients for years to come. In order to accommodate the future of patient care, Scripps built Tower II, an additional 7-story, 430,000 sf tower, which houses a NICU, nursery, labor and delivery unit, radiology, surgery, helipad, cafeteria and kitchen, private patient rooms, and ancillary spaces.
In conjunction with the design team and standards developed by Scripps, Coffman provided fire protection engineering services for the new tower. Specific consulting included defend-in-place strategy, smoke control, and life safety. The facility will provide a first-rate experience for hospital patients and staff. Tower II will be fully integrated with the existing campus, with connecting bridges on all floors to adjacent Tower I. The design also takes campus expansion into consideration, identifying connections to a future Tower III for efficient design, construction, and code-compliant approval.
