SOCCCD Saddleback Advanced Technology & Applied Science Building

Coffman provided structural engineering services for a new two-story, 52,100 sf Advanced Technology & Applied Science (ATAS) building at the South Orange County Community District (SOCCCD). The building houses six different departments, along with administration and faculty offices. The ATAS Building is constructed with cast-in-place concrete utilizing flat plate floor slabs, concrete columns, and concrete shear walls.

The project also included new pavement for eight new tennis courts with associated lighting, bleachers (design pad and anchorage; bleacher per manufacturer), and site improvements (minor shade structures). An adjacent one-level CMU support building with locker rooms, restrooms, etc. was included. Demolition of the existing Technology Advanced Science building and the construction of a new parking lot was also part of the project but did not require structural involvement or documents.
