Providence Mission Hospital Laguna Beach ED Expansion

The Providence Mission Hospital Laguna Beach Emergency Department (ED) Expansion project was a 10,000 sf expansion and full remodel of the existing hospital. The project was completed in six phases, the final phase wrapping in 2017. The goal of the project was to increase the number of exam treatment rooms with an emphasis on privacy. The project replaced existing ER open exam cubicles with entirely private exam rooms. The project also included the replacement of the air handler inside an existing penthouse. The department was designed to treat behavioral health patients with two private exam rooms and a two-exam room ward with complete antiligature considerations.

Coffman served as the subconsultant for the design of all electrical and low-voltage systems to support the upgrade requirements. The design added new panelboards to support the new layout for both normal and emergency power, new equipment branch panelboard to support the new mechanical HVAC units, new light fixtures layout for both general areas and patient areas to meet IESNA and HCAI foot-candle requirements, and a new nurse call system to replace the existing system. Coffman also provided an extension to existing low voltage systems such as controlled access, public address, CATV, and surveillance systems to support the ED functions, as well as an additional IDF room to support the low voltage systems.
