Priest Rapids Dam 390T Gantry Crane Modernization
Structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services for the design and commissioning services for the modernization of a 390T emergency gantry crane that services the powerhouse at Grant County Public Utility District’s (GCPUD) Priest Rapids Dam. Upgrades included new motors and brakes for all three 130-ton hoists, new gantry drives, safety upgrades, load block refurbishment, and a completely new control system using PLC and variable frequency drive controls.
Coffman provided manufacturing, installation and startup support, and developed procedures for component inspections, gear alignment, post-rehabilitation inspection, and final acceptance and load testing. Mechanical designs were accomplished using SolidWorks 3D modeling software while final drawings were delivered in AutoCAD format and were consistent with GCPUD CAD standards.
