Nitto Denko Technologies Facility Expansion

The Nitto Denko Addition is an 18,200 sf one-story lab building on the Nitto Denko campus in Oceanside, CA. Coffman provided structural engineering services for the new addition, including the site retaining walls and the utility yard walls and roof.

The main structure consists of exterior concrete tilt-up panels with a steel-framed roof. The front façade of the building features sloped metal stud-framed walls and soffits with tall parapets. The rear portion of the building features a loading dock and an adjacent utility yard that houses several mechanical equipment units. The site is located in a known flood plain, and the site soils were found to be liquefiable. Coffman incorporated special design measures into the building and foundation to mitigate these concerns, including an elevated finished floor, soil remediation, robust foundations, and tiered retaining walls at the building entry side.

Since the new building is seismically separated from the adjacent existing building, Coffman also worked with the design team to incorporate an enclosed walkway connecting the two buildings.
