Milken Center for the Advancement of the American Dream (MCAAD)

Coffman provided fire protection and life safety code consulting services for the Milken Center for the Advancement of the American Dream (MCAAD) 12-story mixed-use complex. The project includes the renovation of two existing high-rise office buildings and two historic bank hall buildings to be combined into a single structure containing museum and event space, conference/meeting space, food service, offices, and a private club. A new atrium structure connects three of the buildings and additional levels are added above the historic bank hall buildings. Services included drawing reviews, preparation of code modification requests and engineering judgments, performance based design using computer fire modeling, and stair pressurization system modeling. Unique project features included multiple vertical openings separated by a historic glass laylight, sprinkler installation in historic bank hall spaces. Coffman utilized sprinkler activation modeling to prove compliance for sprinkler locations that align with historic architectural constraints, and coordination of code compliance across multiple phases of design and construction.
