Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital Interventional Radiology Suite

Coffman partnered with Given Design Group to provide structural and electrical engineering services for the complete design and construction administration of an interventional radiology suite in an existing space that required demolition and rework of existing walls and systems to support the new equipment. The scope of work was located in the existing basement of a five-story hospital tower.

The project was sequenced into two phases. The first involved the demolition of existing offices, file storage, audit/consult room, vestibule, dressing room, patient prep stations, reading room, housekeeping, partial waiting room, biomed storage, staging area, bed holding/repair room, partial copy/work room, nurse station, patient toilet, and equipment storage. The second included the design of a new interventional radiology room/cath lab, equipment storage, shared control room, scrub alcove, staff clothing change areas, supply room, dressing rooms, on-deck room, anesthesia work room, PACU stations, nurse station, med alcove, patient and staff toilets, housekeeping, offices, cardiac stress room, and reading room.

The structural scope included the seismic anchorage of floor and ceiling mounted equipment over an approximately 6,400 sf tenant improvement area. Coffman performed structural calculations and an existing building assessment to select the appropriate anchors to interface with the existing structure, designing attachments to existing/new partitions walls where appropriate, and designing Unistrut support systems for ceiling-mounted equipment.
