James R. Herman Cruise Terminal at Pier 27

The James R. Herman Cruise Terminal at Pier 27 is a spectacular update to this busy port and boasts a 91,000 sf passenger terminal, a passenger drop off area, and the latest in security and boarding facilities. On non cruise days, the terminal easily converts into one of San Francisco’s newest event spaces with views of Treasure Island, the Bay Bridge, and the city.

Coffman provided the structural design of the passport control and queueing areas of the cruise ship terminal which included the steel gates, partitions, and guideways to regulate passenger flow and the steel stairs, bollards, retracting fences, and other components needed to ensure a first class boarding experience for passengers arriving by cruise ship.

The new facility was built on the rehabilitated concrete pier over the waters of San Francisco Bay and the design team worked closely with the Port of San Francisco for their approval throughout the project.
