Chewelah Bridge Inspections & Load Ratings

The Coffman bridge team performed an in depth inspection of two 85 year old, cast in place concrete section and metal pipe culverts bridges located in Chewelah, Washington. Due to the age of the structures, the bridge team collected asbuilt information using nondestructive methods. For the concrete structures, a rebar scanner was used to determine location and spacing. An ultrasonic metal thickness gauge was used on the metal culvert to determine the thickness of the metal throughout, including areas experiencing corrosion. The information obtained in this process allowed our team to provide an updated load rating for the structures.
