Gas Dispersion and Explosion CFD Modeling

When required for your project, Coffman has experience with various Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) modeling software packages, including FLACS, PHAST, FDS, and others.

  • FLACS – FLACS can be used to evaluate the explosion hazard and support explosion protection system designs. This highly refined tool allows our engineers to simulate and analyze gas release behavior and explosion consequences, accounting for the effects of ventilation or internal enclosure geometry. Coffman has several certified FLACS professionals.
  • PHAST – Phast is consequence modeling software for assessing the far-field effects of toxic and flammable gas releases and explosion overpressures. It can evaluate multiple release scenarios, aiding in effective risk management and emergency planning.
  • Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) – FDS is software that models fire-drive fluid flow. In addition to its fire modeling capabilities, FDS can simulate gas and vapor dispersion.
