The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park

The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park is a structure that complements the beauty of San Diego and elevates the status of the city. The unique structure gives both San Diegans and visitors an experience that is unlike any other. It is the first permanent open-air performance venue in the San Diego Symphony’s century-long history.

Coffman provided structural engineering services for the project, consisting of five building structures, including a 16,500 sf main stage, a storage and restroom facility situated below event seating, concession food facilities, and a ticket booth building. The 50-foot tall main stage structure “The Shell”, includes an elevated concrete stage and adjacent amenities. The white pigmented CMU block walls, concrete columns, and slabs make the structure an iconic feature of the San Diego Bay in both daylight and when lit up at night for performances.
