South Carolina SVP Secure Treatment Facility

Coffman provided fire protection engineering and smoke control design services for the design-build South Carolina SVP (Sexually Violent Predator) Secure Treatment Facility. Our team of fire protection engineers utilized computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling in the design of the smoke control systems serving the treatment facility. Coffman’s experience with CFD modeling as well as fire dynamics simulation (FDS) allowed our design team to examine both the smoke density and smoke toxicity while integrating appropriate levels of conservatism into the system designs. Coffman collaborated with the facility operator, state fire marshal, architectural team, and the mechanical team to confirm a properly designed and well-coordinated smoke control system was provided, protecting the lives of the patients and its staff.
