Santa Barbara Police Station
The Santa Barbara Police Station was originally designed and constructed 1959. In order to address seismic deficiencies found by linear dynamic spectrum analysis based on ASCE41-06, Coffman provided a seismic analysis and retrofit design criteria for the three-story concrete shear wall structure. The proposed solution was an innovative seismic retrofit scheme, using shotcrete and fiber reinforced polymers over the existing concrete walls, as well as adding new concrete shear walls, to meet the enhanced life-safety performance level under the design earthquake ground motion. The retrofit scheme was validated using a 3D computer nonlinear model push-over analysis in PERFORM-3D, and residents of Santa Barbara can feel secure knowing their police station will be preserved and better serve emergency personnel for years to come.
