San Diego Zoo Elephant Odyssey

This multi-species exhibit includes holding buildings, a restaurant, gift shop, restrooms, aviaries, pump rooms, life support systems buildings, moats, waterfalls, rockwork and “utilitrees”. The Elephant Management Facility includes gates, restraints, catwalks and a two-story interior special needs holding with 12 hoist supported by the roof framing. Elephant Odyssey features relatives of local animal species from over 12,000 years ago, including elephants, lions and wild horses. The Elephant Odyssey project was awarded the San Diego Architectural Foundation’s Orchids and Onions People’s Choice Award and the California Council for Society of American Registered Architect’s Design Award of Merit.
