San Diego State University Aztec Recreation Center Expansion

Coffman provided fire protection engineering for the design-build delivery of the San Diego State University Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) Expansion. The project consisted of an approximately 70,000 sf expansion, reconfiguration of the existing 78,000 sf center, renovation of remaining components on the west end of campus, and a new outdoor plaza. The ARC expansion and renovation will create a modern campus venue to meet the current and future recreation, fitness, and wellness needs of SDSU students. The facility incorporates program and design elements to support student engagement and a holistic, inclusive approach to recreation and wellness, such as wellness programming spaces, gender-neutral locker and restroom spaces, social and study spaces, a healthy eatery, and sustainable design elements while also providing high demand recreation and fitness facility and programming spaces. The project is scheduled for completion in 2021.
