Oakland Animal Services

Coffman provided civil engineering services for site improvements at Oakland Animal Services (OAS), enabling the facility to meet the 2014 EPA Consent Decree requirements for stormwater discharge to the San Francisco Bay. Scope of services included the design of enhanced drainage infrastructure and stormwater treatment systems serving the dog yard, kennel pads, and vehicle staging and wash areas.

To improve water quality and eliminate cross contamination, Coffman designed a new sewer connection within the vehicle staging and wash area to redirect greywater to the sanitary sewer system, preventing commingling with stormwater. Additionally, future sewer stub outs were provided for the kennel pads to accommodate Phase II improvements, which will introduce additional improvements, such as roofing, to fully separate greywater from rainwater and further strengthen regulatory compliance.
