NOCCCD Fullerton Instructional Building and Central Plant

Coffman provided structural and fire protection engineering services for a new, three-story, 76,000 sf instructional building at North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) Fullerton. The building includes academic space, faculty and administrative support space, and amenity-type spaces. A central open courtyard is incorporated at all levels, along with a prominent tower component in the southwest corner of the building. The building is being constructed with concrete over metal deck floors supported by steel beams, steel columns on a relatively uniform grid, and steel moment frames for lateral resistance.

An existing central plant located near the new building is being expanded by approximately 5,200 sf to specifically enhance the cooling capacity of the chilled water plant. The boiler plant will be integrated onto the roof of the new instructional building. Construction at the expansion of the existing central plant consists of concrete masonry units (CMU) walls with steel framed roofs.
