NAVFAC Mariner Skills Training Center

This contemporary education and training facility supports the Surface Warfare Officers School. Coffman provided civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, fire protection, RCDD, and landscape design for the 120,000 sf Mariner Skills Training Center (MSTC) at Naval Base San Diego (NBSD). Coffman provided all plans, specifications, design analysis, scheduling, and cost estimating for this renovated building that will support a variety of functions including administration, conferences, instruction, toilet rooms, and both SIPR & NIPR telecom capabilities. To maximize quality and efficiency, the team used Building Information Modeling.

The facility supports classroom instruction and hands-on simulation training stations and a variety of functions including an auditorium, administrative office areas, brief/debrief conference rooms, and mechanical, electrical, and telecommunications capabilities. The building includes five Navigation, Seamanship, and Ship-Handling Training (NSST) rooms and 13 Conning Officer Virtual Environment (COVE) stations which provide advanced navigation and ship handling training for all Surface Officer’s training requirements.
