Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) Exchange

The $35M upgrade and addition to the Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) Exchange, formerly known as the Army & Air Force Exchange Service, includes over 25 retail stores, 50 restaurants, a post office, and more. Coffman provided structural, fire protection, and electrical engineering services for the extensive 160K sf remodel and 120K sf upgrade. Structural engineering included using an innovative, in-place retrofit of the existing lateral force-resisting system. Fire protection engineering included fire alarm replacement, reviewing shop drawings, and participating in system pretests. This project also included a new electrical service, LED interior and site lighting, power distribution, fire alarm/mass notification, and systems. Although the building was occupied, over 10 phases of installation and testing were constructed, Coffman was able to perform services and keep the project ahead of schedule.
