Intersect Campus Refresh
As a part of the Intersect Campus refresh, Coffman provided structural engineering services for interior and exterior tenant improvements for the approximately 400,000 sf campus site. An extensive exterior tenant improvement was undertaken to update the office complex. Several site structures and amenities were added, including steel framed trellis and shade structures surrounding the site, a two-story bar “container” structure with an elevated wood deck, a half-court basketball court, a community garden, a chicken coop, and permanent outdoor seating. In addition, new standalone steel framed portal elements were added at building entrances along with new steel framed canopies cantilevered off the existing building’s second floor framing to provide shade for new outdoor spaces.
Interior improvements include the addition of two new steel-framed interior feature stairs for tenants to access multiple floors without exiting their suites. Careful consideration was given to the location of the new stair floor openings to avoid major floor framing elements without requiring extensive floor strengthening. Additionally, a suite at the ground level was converted into a restaurant with a full kitchen and bar. Coffman coordinated all proposed floor penetrations for new mechanical and plumbing systems with the general contractor to avoid compromising the concrete post-tensioned deck.
