Insitu Hydrogen Lab

Coffman provided structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services to design a mobile hydrogen lab in support of a fuel-cell-powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) by Insitu, Inc. The project included generating, liquifying, and storing liquid hydrogen, a water purifier, and a storage Dewar. The mobile facility services included mechanical, electrical, fire protection code analysis, design, and startup commissioning services.

Coffman’s mechanical and electrical engineers designed the necessary upgrades to the Light Air Mobile Shelter (LAMS) so that it could serve as a hydrogen lab. Upgrades included an HVAC system to provide the air exchanges and ventilation necessary to maintain the hydrogen saturation in the room at less than 1%. Electrical upgrades included modifications to the power, lighting, data, and fire alarm in the LAMS to support the new lab function.
