Glover Middle School

Spokane Public Schools is Washington State’s second largest school district. To meet the needs of this growing district, Coffman provided civil and structural engineering services for Spokane Public Schools’ new Glover Middle School. Glover Middle School is an approximately 135,000 sf, two-story, steel framed building that serves over 600 seventh and eighth grade students.

In order to provide minimal disruption to normal classroom activities, students remained in their existing building while construction of the new facility was completed on the adjacent playfield area. Once construction was complete, students were welcomed into the new Glover Middle School, and the old building was demolished while new site improvements were completed.

New utilities were extended to provide domestic water, irrigation water, fire protection water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, gas, power, and communication services. Extensive grading was needed to shape the new building pad site, control stormwater, and develop the previous building site into playfields and a new parking lot. Other amenities provided included a separate bus/fire lane, service yard, student courtyards and plazas, student playground, career and technical education spaces, and parent drop-off areas.
