Exchange Fort Irwin Express

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (Exchange) supports military personnel and their families by providing essential goods and services at exclusive military pricing. Coffman delivered electrical, mechanical, structural, and fire protection engineering for the new 12,145 sf, 24-hour Express convenience store at Fort Irwin, one of the Army’s most remote installations in the U.S. This facility offers retail sales and fueling stations, and it includes Snack Avenue and a Quick Serve Restaurant.

This Express location integrates a robust electrical design, including lighting and controls, power distribution, HVAC, Snack Avenue, and fuel system equipment power. Structurally, the building features special reinforced masonry shear walls with blocks offset horizontally from each other to create an articulated pattern at the building’s exterior for architectural interest. Advanced security features were provided for comprehensive protection of the facility. Additionally, the site was equipped with utilities to accommodate multiple food trucks, and shade structures designed on all four sides of the building, including a covered loading area, sidewalks, and outdoor eating areas, to provide patrons with some relief from the sun in the hot climate.
