E-Fuels, SAF, and Green Ammonia Feasibility Study
Coffman supported a major utility client in evaluating the feasibility of gigawatt-scale E-Fuel and green ammonia production facilities. These plants would leverage large-scale renewable energy to generate green hydrogen via electrolyzers. The hydrogen would serve as a feedstock for producing green ammonia—used as both fertilizer and an energy carrier—and synthetic E-fuels, which are drop-in alternatives to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and for heavy industrial use. Coffman’s role included analyzing technology readiness levels (TRLs), mapping energy flows, and assessing the economic viability and business case specific to the local region.
