County of San Diego East County Office and Archives

The County of San Diego East County Office and Archives building combines several governmental and administrative departments and is a valuable community resource. The facility provides services including property records, taxes, historical records, and civil wedding ceremonies. This environmentally responsible facility is the nation’s first Net Zero energy archive and meets LEED Gold Certification with sustainable room for growth.

Coffman provided structural engineering services for the new 25,000 sf design-build project. The one-story building used tilt-up concrete panels and open web steel joists for fast construction and column-free spaces that house open offices, a counter for public services, and an archival vault. Key features include a public street under the butterfly roof and a PV-clad shading structure in the parking lot that incentivizes fuel-efficient vehicles.
