Atlantic Yards

Coffman provided fire protection engineering and life safety design services for the new Atlantic Yards complex positioned as part of the Atlantic Station development in the Midtown submarket of Atlanta. The Atlantic Yards project consists of 500,000 sf of progressive office space, designed as two office building components situated on top of a common, Type IA podium structure. The two office buildings are regulated as separate structures, the South Tower being a high-rise facility and the North Tower being a low-rise building positioned on top of a four-level podium. The podium serves as the parking deck and utility space for both towers. Coffman negotiated several critical design issues with the City of Atlanta including the fire department access, the exterior fire rating of the South Tower structure based on the fire separation distance to the adjacent structures on the Atlanta Station site and the regulation of the South Tower as a low-rise structure. Additionally, Coffman provide construction administration services during the construction of the facility.
