Viva Farms Barn

Viva Farms is an organization that “empower[s] aspiring and limited-resource farmers by providing bilingual training in holistic organic farming practices, as well as access to land, infrastructure, equipment, marketing, and capital.” Coffman was hired to provide structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection engineering for the construction of an agricultural building with a total area of 8,400 sf. The building consisted of a wash/pack, conference room, open office area, break room, two enclosed offices, two restrooms, and walk-in refrigeration. Mechanical design included the related air conditioning system, dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS), variable refrigerant volume (VRF) heat pump fan coils, gas unit heaters, and plumbing. Electrical design included power company coordination, future connection of a photovoltaic alternative energy system, lighting design, information communications, and a fire alarm system. Structural design included design for stairs, partitions, and mechanical equipment supports. Fire protection design included reviewing codes and a fire water supply analysis.
