VASNHS Building 1 Roof Replacement

Coffman is providing comprehensive fire protection, MEP, and structural engineering services for the roof replacement and remediation project at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) Building 1. This project addresses the deteriorating condition and ongoing water intrusion issues that have impacted the building’s roof. The 261,540 sf roof is suffering from degradation and water infiltration, which poses a risk to the structural integrity and the overall functionality of the facility.

The project involves a full assessment and replacement of the existing roofing system, as well as remediation of any associated issues such as structural damage, water leakage, and system failures related to fire protection, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems. Coffman’s multidisciplinary approach helps confirm that all aspects of the building’s infrastructure are addressed concurrently to minimize disruption and maintain the safety and operational capacity of the VASNHS.

The scope of work includes:

  • Roof Removal & Replacement: Removal of the existing roofing materials, inspection of underlying structures, and installation of a new, durable roofing system that meets the requirements of the healthcare facility.
  • Structural Repairs: Addressing any water-induced damage to the building’s structural framework and supporting components.
  • Waterproofing and Insulation: Enhancing waterproofing measures and adding necessary insulation to prevent future water intrusion and improve energy efficiency.
  • Mechanical, Plumbing & Electrical Integration: Coordinating the integration of roofing systems with mechanical, plumbing, and electrical infrastructures to maintain proper functionality and long-term durability.
  • Fire Protection Systems: Confirming that the updated roof and associated systems maintain the fire protection standards required for healthcare facilities.

This project aims to improve the overall safety, efficiency, and longevity of VASNHS Building 1, so the facility remains a reliable and functional space for healthcare services.
