University of Alaska Anchorage Parking Lot Upgrades Study

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) needed a parking study and redesign to reduce congestion and allow emergency vehicles to exit safely from the Eugene Short Hall parking area. Coffman provided the civil engineering design for improvements to the parking lot study, design, and the storm drain system. The project included the rehabilitation of the existing 54,000 sf asphalt parking lot, the addition of a single-lane egress drive for emergency vehicles, a 4,700 sf Americans with Disabilities (ADA) parking area addition, and a new storm drain to serve the parking area.

Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) permitting included a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Type 2 and a drainage report as required by the MOA Drainage Design Guidelines. In addition, Coffman inspected the storm drain system, identified defects and deficiencies, and made recommendations for repairs. Other responsibilities included construction cost estimating, a storm water pipe investigation, and abandoning the existing storm drain pipe.
