PBS Hawaii Clarence T.C. Ching Campus

The Clarence T.C. Ching Campus is the headquarters building for PBS Hawaii, the statewide public television station in Honolulu. Coffman provided electrical engineering and lighting design services for this $30M design-build facility that features an open concept that focuses on flexibility and collaboration. The two story, 32,000 SF, facility includes a state-of-the art television and multimedia studio, a smaller second studio, studio production control room, technical areas, audio production areas, editing rooms, administrative, and office spaces. The building includes the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Learning Zone, an open area on the second floor built for collaborative projects with filmmakers, students, teachers and others in the community. This area is also used for educational functions like storytelling and workforce development. The building offers plenty of space in which to hold special events and meet with community members.

Specific design services included lighting design, electrical service and distribution for normal and technical power, generator backup, telecom, A/V power and raceway, and the fire alarm system. Coffman also provided exterior lighting design, power and grounding for antennas, power and controls for the security gate, and power for electric vehicle charging stations.
