Mar Vista High School Aquatics Facility

Coffman provided structural engineering services for the design-build construction of a new 10,0000 sf facility at Mar Vista High School. The structural scope included the design of the Aquatics Center with locker rooms, restrooms, concessions, storage, administrative offices, and a pool support room. Site improvements included a new 50m competition pool, lighting, LED marquee scoreboard, gates, and secure fencing.

The pool facility building is designed with an efficient layout that includes an attached concession building and restroom facilities with accesses on either side that can be used for pool activities and/or campus activities. Bleachers with permanent shade structures will be added near the pool and over 2,600 sf of additional shade canopies will be adjacent to the Pool Facility Building. A plaza, marquees, site lighting, fencing, and a security system allowance are also included in updating the facility.

Updating the drill yard provides a secured drill area for the ROTC program and can be utilized for other campus functions. Rolling gates will provide vehicle access directly from the service road to the pool deck.

The project also included a new entry design for the ceramics building, which allows for more cohesive access to both the ceramics classroom and the existing classroom. Storage rooms were added for student projects and materials. Relocation of the kiln area and utility sinks will also help with the function of the building.
