King County Children and Family Justice Center

The Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center is located in Seattle’s Squire Park neighborhood and serves area youth and their families. Coffman provided electrical engineering services for the new 150,000 sf state-of-the-art juvenile court and detention facility in King County. The project consists of a 4-story building that includes ten courtrooms, private meeting rooms, and administrative spaces which are connected to a 2-story, 154 room detention facility, and a parking garage on the south end of the site. King County’s goal of zero youth detention allows flexible living spaces to be converted to other non-detention program areas in the future.

The project required close coordination with the County and construction staff. During the first phase, the existing facility remained secure and operational until the new court and detention building was completed at the north end of the site. This project was honored with an Award of Merit from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) in the Federal, State, County and Municipal category in 2020.
