Ferguson Administrative Services Center
Coffman is providing structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for a voluntary seismic retrofit to the Ferguson Administrative Services Center. The center serves the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services/Public Health, and Coffman’s scope includes conducting a feasibility study, schematic design, full construction documents, bidding support, and construction administration services. The project is part of a seismic retrofit on-call contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (LACDPW). The center consists of two structures, the merchandise building and an office building. It is currently occupied and will remain occupied during construction.
The structural scope involves performing ASCE 41 Tier 1 and Tier 2 seismic evaluations, providing recommendations for a retrofit solution, and developing a complete retrofit design based on the selected retrofit scheme. The civil scope involves grading and pavement modifications, as well as accessible (ADA) ramp upgrades as needed. The MEP scope involves a feasibility study of recommendations for MEP systems to be protected during the seismic retrofit to avoid equipment relocation or a major remodel, in addition to developing construction documents for modifications as needed for the seismic retrofit.
