Evergreen Valley College General Education and Engineering Building
Coffman provided full acoustic consulting services for the new General Education and Engineering Building at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose, California. The ground-up 41,000 sf, three-story, facility features 14 classrooms and six lecture halls on the top two floors as part of the general education department. The first floor and basement serve the engineering department with three classrooms including labs that are dedicated to material testing and electrical technology instruction. Additionally, the building includes faculty offices and a promenade for outdoor gatherings, serving as a hub for students and faculty alike while catering to the diverse academic needs of the college community.
The scope of work included full acoustic design including room acoustics for small spaces such as offices and classrooms, as well as for larger, specialty spaces like lecture halls, and instructional labs. Coffman provided sound isolation recommendations for acoustically-sensitive spaces, mechanical noise and vibration control, acoustic considerations for common areas, and material and assembly recommendations to optimize acoustic performance throughout the facility. Additionally, the team provided construction and post-construction support with site visits and submittal reviews.
