The expansion of Coffman’s depth of services in the Southeast Region continues with the addition of principal advisor Mike Crowley and senior civil engineer Jeff Lowe, PE, in our Atlanta office, and senior fire protection engineer Steve Whitman, PE, in our D.C. Our Southeast Region continues to grow and we are pleased to welcome Mike Crowley, Principal Advisor in March 2021. Mike has more than 40 years of experience in fire protection engineering consulting. As a subject matter expert in healthcare fire protection and life safety, he will serve as a great resource to clients in the Southeast.

Mike is involved in industry-related activities including NFPA Codes and Standards development, Fellow of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and 2020 President, Fellow of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE), and member of the NFPA Standards Council. He also instructs for NFPA’s Life Safety Code Course (NFPA 101), NFPA 99, and ASHE on NFPA 99, and is a frequent speaker on the topics of code compliance in healthcare and fire protection engineering in the built environment.

 

Jeff Lowe, PE – Atlanta

Jeff joined the Atlanta office in January 2021 and is the first civil engineer to join the Southeast Region team. He is a licensed civil engineer and brings more than 25 years of experience in designing site development projects, and has experience in all phases of commercial, federal, and state site development including preliminary planning, due diligence, concept design, civil-site design (layout, staking, grading/drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and erosion control), construction plan preparation, regulatory permitting, and construction management/oversite.

Jeff also has 4+ years of environmental engineering remediation including due diligence reports, environmental audits, environmental assessments, and environmental construction remediation oversite for commercial, federal, and state government projects. Jeff brings familiarity with state and local design and construction standards/practices, regulatory/entitlement processes, and environmental regulations to the team.

 

Steve Whitman, PE – D.C. Metro

We are excited to welcome Steve to the D.C. Metro office in December 2020. Steve is a licensed fire protection engineer (FPE) with more than 15 years of experience in building/life safety code consulting, fire protection systems design, construction administration, performance-based design, and property condition assessments. He specializes in higher education and commercial/multifamily residential markets, while also working as a discipline lead on healthcare, hospitality, and government projects.

Steve graduated from the University of Maryland and is active in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) at the Chapter and International level. Steve’s focus is on client satisfaction and lasting relationships while contributing to the design of buildings that enhance the local community.

Steve joins a team of fire protection engineers across the company and will serve as a local resource for Washington D.C. area clients.
