Wayne Higuchi, SE

Principal Advisor, Structural Engineering

Honolulu

Meet Wayne.

Wayne Higuchi, SE, is a structural engineering principal advisor in Coffman’s Honolulu office. As part of the asset purchase agreement with Shigemura, Lau, Sakanashi, Higuchi & Associates, Inc. (SLSH), Wayne joined Coffman in November 2022. Wayne began at SLSH as a junior engineer, and through his 40 years there, worked his way up to vice president and principal of the firm.

Wayne has more than 43 years of extensive structural engineering experience, 41 of which were with SLSH. He was elevated to a firm principal because of his vast knowledge of structural engineering and his capacity to manage projects. His experience ranges from retaining walls and wood member repairs to airport concourse extensions and aircraft hangars.  Most of his projects have been in Hawaii, but he has worked in Guam, Japan, and even Antarctica.

Wayne has spent years working with contractors and helping them meet their project requirements, including shoring and excavations, reviewing submittals, temporary bracing, and problem solving.

Wayne graduated from the University of Hawaii and earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in civil engineering, with his master’s emphasis on structural engineering.

As a principal advisor with Coffman, Wayne focuses on transitioning skills and knowledge to less experienced staff through direct instruction and mentoring relationships. In addition, he continues to cultivate client relationships and maintain project progression and quality control.
