MEET Kimo
Kimo Unten, PE is a principal with more than two decades of civil engineering experience in Hawaii. He leads and mentors the Honolulu civil design team, fostering a team‑first culture and supporting professional growth. His experience includes master planned communities, commercial site design, roadway expansion, school and correctional facility improvements, master planning, and site analysis for private sector clients and state and local governments. Kimo is known for building lasting client relationships and working collaboratively to resolve challenges and deliver successful project outcomes.
Kimo’s project experience spans a wide range of civil engineering services, including site development, infrastructure improvements, and complex entitlement and coordination efforts. He has supported projects of varying scale and complexity, providing practical solutions that balance technical requirements, regulatory considerations, and client goals. His leadership and client‑focused approach have made him a trusted advisor for long‑term development programs and public‑sector initiatives.
In addition to project delivery, Kimo plays an active role in the engineering and development community through professional and civic involvement. He supports initiatives focused on education, housing, and community development, and contributes to leadership efforts that strengthen collaboration between public agencies and private partners.
Outside of work, Kimo enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons and staying active through golf, pickleball, beach activities, coaching his son’s soccer team and exploring new travel destinations.
Kimo holds a BS in Physical Science from Southwestern University and BS in Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin.
