University of California San Diego Pepper Canyon

The University of California San Diego Pepper Canyon West Student Housing project is the redevelopment of six acres at the center of campus and adjacent to the new Light Rail Transit (LRT) station scheduled to open in the fall of 2021.

Coffman provided fire protection engineering services for the development which includes a collection of buildings that will provide 1,400 beds to serve the student population. The redevelopment also included the demolition of several existing 1960’s two-story walk-up apartments and service buildings to clear the site for the new construction. The housing project embraces its close proximity to public transportation and creates a vibrant “urban” atmosphere. In addition to housing, the buildings incorporate amenity and retail space to serve both the tenant and broader campus community utilizing LRT to travel to and from campus.
