Brentwood Middle School

Brentwood School is an independent K–12 day school offering traditional college preparatory education, with two campuses located four blocks apart in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. The school ranks highly in academics, arts, and athletics.

Coffman provided structural engineering services for the East Campus Middle School building project as part of the first phase of an overall 30-year master plan. The new building serves over 350 students with 78,000 sf of new construction and a new multi-purpose athletic field, beneath which is approximately 102,000 sf of subterranean parking with 250 spaces. The classroom building is four-stories located next to the athletic field on the concrete podium. Educational spaces include a theatre, dance and choir rooms, classrooms, cafeteria, kitchen, administration/faculty offices, and patio/courtyard space. The variations in topography surrounding the Middle School Building presented unique challenges in creating an efficient structural design.
