Brent Shoji, PE, Retires After 18-Year Career at Coffman Engineers
HONOLULU, Hawaii, March 22nd, 2024 – Coffman celebrates with Brent Shoji, PE, Senior Discipline Engineer, Fire Protection Engineering, on his retirement after 18 years of service.
Coffman’s Pacific Region offices wished Brent a happy retirement on March 1, 2024. “Thank you, Coffman Ohana, and special thanks to Robert Bigtas, Sam Dannaway, and Jay Higashi for allowing me to reinvent myself back in 2005. S.S. Dannaway and Associates (SSDA) took a chance to hire me back then. It has been an eventful 38+ years and I will cherish all the memories,” said Shoji.
Brent’s experience included the design and engineering of fire protection systems for new and existing facilities for military, state, and commercial facilities. His duties included performing calculations, the selection and specifications of equipment, preparing cost estimates of designed systems, supervision of CAD production, and construction administration for submittal reviews and site inspections. He was instrumental to projects in Japan, the Philippines, Guam, and Hawaii.
“Congratulations Brent! We wish you well in your retirement,” said John Thielst, Coffman’s Senior Vice President, Pacific Region Managing Principal. “Brent is a dependable and knowledgeable engineer. He could always be counted on to get the job done well.”
Shoji’s long-time Coffman colleagues and department managers wish him well.
“We wish you the best as you venture off into retirement. It seemed not so long ago when we worked on one of our first Guam projects together. I can’t believe it’s been 18 years since you started to work with us at SSDA, where did the time go? It has been a fun ride with all our travel to Korea, Japan, and Guam! We will miss your hard work and attention to detail. Take care, my friend,” said Robert Bigtas, PE, FSFPE, Principal, Fire Protection Engineering.
“We are sorry to see Brent leave, but we are happy for him and wish him the best in his well-deserved retirement. Brent is a dedicated and highly competent fire protection engineer. Whenever I gave Brent a project, there was never any worry about getting it done, on time, and done right,” said Sam Dannaway, PE, FSFPE, Principal Advisor, Chief Fire Protection Engineer.
“Congratulations Brent! Thanks for all the memories and companionship,” said Jay Higashi, PE, Principal, Fire Protection Engineering.
