University of Maryland IDEA Factory

Coffman provided fire protection engineering and life safety code consulting services in support of the University of Maryland (UMD) IDEA Factory in College Park, Maryland. The project included the new construction of a 61,100 sf building with five above-grade stories and one below-grade story, with a second-floor pedestrian bridge connection to an existing building. The UMD IDEA factory includes research labs, classrooms, conference rooms, a café, and an outdoor terrace.

Coffman reviewed the control area/laboratory unit separation methodology and hazardous material classifications and quantities for compliance with IBC and NFPA 45. Additionally, Coffman performed a multidiscipline drawing review for compliance with the applicable fire protection and life safety code requirements.
